In common moments of life, like the Israelites, prayer as seed and kernels of honor, companionship, respect, and request of God, can often seem familiar. We pray for earthly things in most cases, family, our tribe, and material need and possessions (Genesis 28). God the multiplier, listens to His children, as he provides for us.
Properly understood, Jacob whose prayer, as vow (Genesis 28:20-22), was quite different from what is natural in most daily lives. In this prayer Jacob did not pray to satisfy his own need. Instead, he likewise considered, God’s needs too. In viewing verse 17, we see that any place is a place of heaven. God is everywhere, and wherever He is, should be a place of understanding and friendly communications. In the role of leadership consultant, at least this is my expectations every time I enter houses of worship or any Christian organization. However, there are situations when this expectation is crush by bickering, backstabbing, stubbornness, and universal strife.
In theses circumstances, I wonder if God’s ladder of mercy is even seen. I know also that behaviors as these, are where the enemy takes up throne. He relishes in discord of any kind, and I imagine in instances as these, he is mostly pleased. Anything to steal the spirit of Grace. Any moment to kill the spirit of Christian leaders and those who serve. Any opportunity to destroy the inner and pull the siding from the nails, smash the concrete, once put together with delicate hands. To dim the candles and lights of Christian organizations, is most pleasing to him, the enemy of truth.
Churches, places of worship, and Christian organizations should emit light, truth, and care. Chaos is not what God is about. This is not His way. His window in which to view His leadership style is written within His great book, the Bible. The only organic way of Christian leadership. Nothing else.
Christian leadership is not a title, it is a way of life. It is a Biblical mandate to share God’s truths. It should never be a power-trip or provide false information of need or of desire. I also don’t believe it should be a platform where people throw their hard-earned money, especially in leadership platforms that do not speak God’s truth. That’s just unimaginable.
If you believe, you have lost your way as a Christian leader. The Bible as the most valuable book on leadership, will take you back to the beginning. To the three ways… of God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit. As Jacob, remember positive changes serves you, but honors God even more.
